Queenstown
Queenstown is a town in the southwestern New Zealand. The city airport, Queenstown Airport (NZQN) , is spetacular due to its mountainous surroundings. The main runway is 6200 ft long.
Approaches
Queenstown has several approaches, all circle-to-land:
- VOR/DME alpha, bravo, charlie
- GPS alfa, bravo
- RNAV rwy 05 and rwy 23 is the only category D approach, but is not possible in FS due to lack of waypoints
The alpha and bravo approaches are for east arrivals (rwy 23) and charlie for west arrivals (rwy 5). Remark that the airport has a special eight pattern for larger aircraft circlings.

Scenery
The free NZQN Queenstown Intl Airport and corresponding Queenstown NZ photoreal update by Peter Lohr and Robin Corn add a very detailed scenery to the airport and surrounding area. It is also strongly recommended to add a more detailed mesh, e.g., the free 75m mesh from GeographX.
Flights
The airport has several dometic flights and flights to Australia, mainly served by Air New Zealand and Quantas, and Boeing 737 being the largest serving jet. For Australian departures start at Sydney (YSSY) or Brisbane (YBBN) (2-3 hours). For domestic flights, for example make a longer flight from Auckland (NZAA) or a short flight from Christchurch (NZCH). Try a non-visual, difficult weather approach in e.g. the Boeing 737 for a highly challinging approach.
